Orbia Netafim and Partners Launch Climate-Smart Insurance for Vietnamese Coffee Farmers
A new model combines precision irrigation adoption with weather-indexed climate-risk insurance—helping smallholders protect their income while investing in more efficient farming.
Dak Nong, Vietnam / Tel Aviv, Israel | December 2025
Orbia Netafim’s Vietnamese distributor Khang Thinh Irrigation Technology JSC and Australian insurtech firm Hillridge Technology announced a partnership to strengthen climate resilience for coffee growers in Vietnam.
The core innovation is an ‘embedded’ insurance model: smallholder farmers can access weather-indexed climate-risk protection when they adopt precision irrigation solutions. The insurance is distributed in Vietnam through Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group (MSIG) Vietnam, Hillridge’s licensed insurance partner.
As an initial rollout, comprehensive insurance for 100 hectares of coffee farms in Dak Nong Province has already been purchased for farmers who are adopting Orbia Netafim’s precision irrigation solutions.
The partnership is positioned as a scalable approach that could expand to other irrigated crops and geographies—bringing together farm-level efficiency (water and nutrient optimization) with financial protection against drought, erratic rainfall, and heat stress.
Key highlights:
- Partners: Khang Thinh Irrigation Technology JSC (Vietnam), Hillridge Technology (Australia), and MSIG Vietnam (insurance distribution).
- Initial coverage includes 100 hectares of coffee farms in Dak Nong Province.
- Insurance is weather-indexed and tied to adopting precision irrigation solutions.
- Model is designed to scale to other crops and regions across Southeast Asia.
