Better Life Farming Alliance Launches in Vietnam to Support Coffee and Durian Smallholders

The Better Life Farming Alliance (BLF) expands to Vietnam, bringing a partnership ecosystem to help coffee and durian smallholders access innovation, knowledge, and financing.

Vietnam | October 2024

Better Life Farming Alliance (BLF) officially launched in Vietnam on October 15, 2024, aiming to partner with smallholder coffee and durian farmers as well as stakeholders across the value chain to improve farming efficiency and productivity sustainably.

BLF is a public-private alliance co-founded by Bayer, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and Netafim. In Vietnam, the alliance welcomes additional partners such as Yara (crop nutrition) and the Western Highlands Agro-Forestry Scientific and Technical Institute (WASI), which supports training, consulting, and technology transfer for Central Highlands agriculture.

The launch was supported by cooperation with Vietnam’s National Agricultural Extension Center (NAEC). The alliance positions itself as a practical ‘ecosystem’—bringing together inputs, agronomy, financing, and market linkage—to help farmers improve harvest quality, strengthen livelihoods, and make farming a more reliable business.

Key highlights:

  • BLF Vietnam launch date: 15 October 2024.
  • Co-founders include Bayer, IFC, and Netafim.
  • Local ecosystem approach: innovation + knowledge + financing + training support for smallholders.
  • Initial crop focus: coffee and durian in Vietnam’s key production regions.
