To build a large-scale glasshouse that maintains a sustainable, year-round production of tomatoes, enabling the Croatian supermarket chain to enter the field-to-plate vertical and achieve consistent profitability.
Type: Large scale glasshouse irrigation project
Size: 4.7 Hectares
Belje, a leading supermarket chain in Croatia, wanted to enter the field-to-plate vertical by independently growing tomatoes. But with no prior experience and facing sub-zero winter conditions, they needed expert guidance to reach the goal of sustainable, year-round production. Our team designed and executed the end-to-end, large scale glasshouse project, from business plan, to training local staff, to post-project technical support. In just 6 months, the nearly 5ha project was completed. And for three consecutive years since it opened, the glasshouse has achieved its goal of 60kg yields per m2.
Reduction in fertilizer costs
Water reduction due to drip irrigation system
Yields per m²
As newcomers to glasshouse farming, Belje needed the full range of services and support to ensure the long-term success of the project. With Netafim Projects, Belje exceeded their expectations, with the above-target results of 630 tonnes per hectare.
